Community & Youth Programs

WATER EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM

The Upper District's annual Water Education Grant Program offers funding for classroom or school projects that further a better understanding of water as a vital resource and the important role it plays in Southern California.

Any K-12th grade educator that teaches at a licensed school within the boundaries of the Upper District is eligible to apply for a grant.

Projects must focus on water or water-related projects, which may include, but are not limited to:

• Examining the various properties of water, studying water quality, or charting the effect of a drought on the economy.
• Integrating the project into as many disciplines as you wish: politics, social science, the arts, etc.
• Creating a video, play or other performance medium that focuses on the subject of water and is used to educate students or other audiences (such as school assemblies or community groups).

Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded. The number of grants annually awarded will vary based on the number of applications submitted, amounts requested and the quality/feasibility of the proposed projects/lessons.

• Teachers may apply individually or as a group or team.
• Teachers are limited to one grant award per class, per year.
• Schools can apply on behalf of their teachers.
• Schools can apply for up to a maximum of 5 grants ($1,000 maximum per grant) per year.
• Completed applications must be reviewed and signed by the principal/head of school.

In early Fall of each year, five copies of the Water Education Grant Program Guidelines and Application are sent to the Principal as well as to the Vice Principal of each school within the Upper District boundaries. A pdf copy of the application will also be available in the Fall on the Upper District's website at www.usgvmwd.org.
