Bryan Urias was elected to the Board of Directors for the Upper District in November of 2010 and began serving in that capacity in January 2011. In addition to being its newest member, Bryan is also the youngest person to ever be elected to the Board at the age of 29.
Bryan's career in public service began as an intern for then Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis. Bryan subsequently served four years as Field Representative for Solis. Shortly after Solis was selected by President Obama to serve as his Secretary of Labor, Bryan was appointed by Congresswoman Judy Chu as Senior Field Deputy. Bryan has covered water and environmental issues for both members of Congress.
A lifelong resident of the San Gabriel Valley, Bryan has lived in Azusa, West Covina and Baldwin Park, where he currently resides. Bryan has dedicated his time to community service and has served in various capacities in Baldwin Park. In 2009, Bryan was appointed to the Baldwin Park Housing Commission where he served as its Chair. Most recently, Bryan served as a member of the Baldwin Park Planning Commission.
Bryan's priorities are to ensure a sustainable, clean water supply and to invest resources to improve the economy and create employment opportunities. He has received various recognitions for his community service. In 2008, he was recognized as Democrat of the Year for the 57th Assembly District by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. Similarly, the City of Duarte recognized Bryan's service and commitment.
Bryan graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University, Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in political science. Prior to that, Bryan received an Associate Degree in social and behavioral science from Citrus College in Glendora.
